Thank you for adapting the course online! Growing up in Boston, I did not get to meet many other Indonesians, so I'm always happy to meet others, go to the festivals and classes, etc.

Beginner / Spring 2020

My wife is from Indonesia. Taking this class is a way for me to understand her culture a little bit more and also to be able to speak to some of her relatives who can't speak English. The class helped me exploring different sentence structures that I didn't understand before from just taking the Rosetta Stone or random stuff I've learned from my two trips to Indonesia. Sit in a class like this gave me more structure and less random words or slank here and there.

Beginner / Fall 2016

I want to continue learning and improving my Bahasa Indonesia so that I can keep working in Indonesia. The instructor is enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and encouraging.

Intermediate / Spring 2019

I've tried different techniques over the years to learn Bahasa Indonesia and this class really gave me the foundations I've been needing.

Beginner / Fall 2017

This class is great for learning the grammar and the skeleton of sentences in Indonesian because that is something difficult to learn for people like me who primarily speak English. I've learned different pronounces and the way that adjectives can modify Indonesian sentences, and where to actually place certain words correctly.

Beginner / Fall 2017

I enjoyed the course, but more speaking activities would be great!

Beginner / Spring 2019

Tia explains everything very clearly and the online content each week was fresh, practical, and thoughtfully put together. I didn't feel like I missed out on the experience and I actually enjoyed being able to work on the lessons ahead of our zoom sessions and to be able to work together on zoom the way that we did.

Beginner / Spring 2020

What are the strengths of the instructor? It's Ibu Guru's knowledge, her enthusiasm, and careful explanations. The course was extremely well organized.

Beginner / Fall 2020

My only feedback for the class would be to upload the lessons into one Google folder or one singular location. The lessons were sent in individual emails and it sometimes got confusing to search back for previous lessons. Otherwise, I have absolutely nothing but positive things to say!

Beginner / Spring 2020

I'd love to be able to join a more advanced course!

Beginner / Spring 2020

My dad is from Indonesia and I want to be able to communicate with my relatives. I like all the speaking and listening practices offered in this course.

Beginner / Spring 2019

I took this course mostly to practice listening and speaking, and also to meet others who are interested in the Indonesian language. A surprising number of words are English cognates. The grammar is very reasonable.

Beginner / Spring 2019

The easiest is probably listening, but the hardest is writing formally.

Intermediate / Fall 2020

I didn't expect that pronunciation would be so difficult. I need to hear more about how native speakers read and pronounce.

Beginner / Fall 2020

I loved practicing speaking and conversing with the other students. I loved the Kaput game exercises. The structure of the course was perfect. I wish the course were longer! I want to keep learning!

Beginner / Spring 2020

Zoom was great and I was really impressed with the exercises. I kind of miss the fun cultural activities that happen in in-person courses. Maybe in the future having the option of everyone ordering the same ICONE's takeout delivery meal and discussing or having an optional zoom screening of Impetigore at Halloween or something could be fun (students could organize this too I suppose. I wanted to but got so overwhelmed with work).

Intermediate / Fall 2020

I wouldn't mind having more sessions or arranging so that we can continue from the beginner class directly to the advanced class. I really like this course!

Beginner / Spring 2019

A longer course, please! And maybe a little more coverage of Indonesian culture.

Beginner / Spring 2020

The class is very informative and fun at the same time. The games were great and made it easier for me to learn.

Beginner / Fall 2017

What's the most difficult part about learning Indonesian? Rolling my R's! :)

Beginner / Spring 2019

Learning Indonesian through ICONE has been such a wonderful experience! Even though we had to switch to online teaching early into the course due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I never felt like I was missing out on anything.

Beginner / Spring 2020

Thank you!!!! Kelas ini bagus sekali!!!

Beginner / Spring 2020

I would like to have opportunities to practice more using the material that has been covered. Maybe a study group. Repeating after the teacher in order to improve pronunciation.

Beginner / Fall 2020

I took this course to refine my grasp of the basics and get in touch with my heritage.

Beginner / Spring 2020

I really liked the discipline of being in a course that meets weekly with material to study by the week and how the weekly material was reinforced each Saturday during the class. I also liked the way the instructor wove in the cultural aspects of Indonesia into the lessons.

Beginner / Fall 2020

I want to learn Bahasa Indonesia because I tend to forget without continuous practice. I enjoyed the teaching methods of Guru Tia. She employed a variety of tools to make learning interesting and fun.

Intermediate / Spring 2019

The instructor was organized with well-prepared lessons and a willingness to help out inside and outside of class.

Intermediate / Fall 2020

I've been trying to learn Indonesian on my own, but have had very limited success. Finding this course was very fortunate since there are very few other learning opportunities for Indonesian in the Boston area.

Beginner / Fall 2020

I took the course to begin to learn Bahasa Indonesia because of my community connections and mission in Indonesia, currently in Bandung.

Beginner / Fall 2020

My husband is working in Jakarta and I will be going back and forth. I want to be able to communicate! I really like this course because I love Tia's instruction, learning new vocabulary, and trying to speak.

Bazaar ICONE di Hilton Park, Dover NH adalah pengalaman saya yang pertama berkolaborasi dengan ICONE. Sebagai salah satu vendor bazaar, saya senang panitia bisa mendatangkan cukup banyak pengunjung yang antusias menyicipi makanan Indonesia. Apalagi tempatnya yang strategis dan cuaca yang mendukung. Panitia pun tidak segan untuk membantu vendor. Terimakasih buat ICONE, semoga makin sukses ke depannya.

I'd never thought I'd have my own business in catering. But thanks to ICONE, since I participated in one of their events in Boston as their food contributor few weeks ago, I'm now doing catering for several people on my own. Small business still, but it's definitely a good start! I hope there'll be more people like me that can benefit from ICONE community programs. Yay to ICONE! :)

Capenya belom habis benar setelah persiapan masak2 seorang diri untuk ikut memeriahkan bazaar ICONE. Tapi terbayar juga karena senang liat banyaknya orang yang dating and makanan habis ludes terjual. Tidak mau missed deh kalo ICONE bikin event bazaar lagi karena pasti ramai crowd- nya and keren acaranya. Thanks a lot buat temen2 yg sudah mampir dan beli makananku, PLUS Olla dan team ICONE. Till we meet in another event! Sukses for ICONE!

Senangnya berbagi keceriaan bersama saudara2 sesama warga Indonesia dinegera rantau. Saya senang sekali ada organisasi seperti ICONE yg memfasilitasi ajang berkumpulnya warga Indonesia dengan berbagai macam suku, agama dan budaya. Salah satu kegiatan yg saya suka dan nikmati adalah bazaar karena saya bisa memperkenalkan kue2 tradisional yg mungkin para pengunjung belum tahu atau belum pernah menikmatinya.

Sukses terus buat ICONE!!❤️👍

Selama ini kita selalu having fun di acaranya ICONE. Senang bgt bisa ikut bazaar di ICONE...terutama yg outdoor. Kalau yg indoor mungkin mesti dibikin sampai jam 4 PM deh karena kayaknya terlalu pendek waktunya, tapi itu cuman saran aja ya. Semoga sukses selalu!
