Adopting some of Indonesia’s well-known folklores such as Bawang Merah Bawang Putih\, Cendrawasih\, Malin Kundang\, Ramayana\, Telaga Biru\, and Telaga Tiga Warna\, the concert will be presented in a combination of musical compositions\, poetry\, and dances accompanied by a large ensemble comprising of iconic Indonesian musical instruments\, a choir\, a string section\, a wind section\, and dancers from various Indonesian dance groups in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. \nThe Indonesian Cultural Night: LEGENDA concert is the culmination of the previous two concerts held in 2018 and spring 2019 at the Berklee College of Music campus. Bernard Jonathan\, Director of BIC\, conceived the blueprint of this Indonesian cultural concert to further introduce and raise public awareness on the richness and uniqueness of various Indonesian arts and culture in the United States\, especially in Massachusetts and neighboring New England states. The Berklee Indonesian Ensemble – the music ensemble formed by Bernard and his two colleagues\, Timotius Simanjuntak and Kinski Onggara – performed ethno-contemporary arrangements of numerous Indonesian traditional songs in both concerts. The composers and arrangers approached their works by taking musical aspects from Indonesian regions such as Sumatera\, Java\, Bali\, Kalimantan\, and Papua\, and combined them with western musical harmony and structure. The fusion of western instruments such as saxophone\, guitar\, piano\, bass\, and drums with traditional instruments of Indonesia such as the gamelan\, gendang\, and suling\, was the heart of the concert series. \nThe concert is supported by several non-profit Indonesian organizations namely PERMIAS Massachusetts (an Indonesian Student Association body in Massachusetts)\, Amerika BerSATU\, Indonesian Community Connect\, Inc. (ICC)\, and Indonesian Community of New England Inc. (ICONE). Commenting on behalf of the Indonesian community in Boston and the surrounding regions\, Olla Chas\, Co-Founder and President of ICONE says that with LEGENDA concert\, BIC and the partnering organizations aim at not only bringing Indonesia to Boston through music and arts\, but also showcasing a cultural night to remember for the Bostonians.

SUMMARY:2019 Ramadan Berbagi / Ramadan to Share
DESCRIPTION:Ramadan is all about sharing with those around us. So let’s celebrate Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr / Hari Raya moments with family and friends\, while also sharing this joy to orphans in need in Indonesia. \nAs previously done in the past couple of years during Ramadan month\, ICONEans who live in or outside New England regions are once again invited to order and enjoy the scrumptious selections of Indonesian cookies (kue kering) and cakes with family and friends. This year\, the cookies and cakes are made available by our partner and friend\, a prominent Indonesian bakery store in Philadelphia\, Z’s Kitchen. While purchasing these cookies and cakes\, we would also call for your kindness to make a donation (sedekah) that will benefit the orphans in Indonesia. We are expanding our charity reach outside Java by directing 100% of this year’s donation to Panti Asuhan Aisyiyah Siti Khadijah\, an orphanage center in Samarinda\, East of Kalimantan\, Indonesia. We would appreciate your donation to this orphanage center with the amount choice of $20\, $25\, $35\, or $50. \nPlease make your Paypal / credit cards/debit card orders and donations at the bottom of this page. Please also don’t forget to tick one of the shipping methods that suitable for your order. \nShould you only wish to donate and not ordering cookies or cakes\, that is OK too. And should you wish to donate a different amount\, you can send your check to our treasurer\, Elvina Setia\, payable to Indonesian Community of New England\, Inc. with the address of 1 Jacobs St.\, Peabody\, MA\, 01960. Orders and a donation can also be done through Venmo at https://venmo.com/ICONE \n\nThis “Ramadan Berbagi / Ramadan to Share” program is open to all regardless of race\, nationalities\, and religion. For further questions\, email us at contact@icone-inc.org\, or call Evin at (617) 480-9517 or Sophia at (857) 207-8378. Thank you in advance for your kind support.\n\n\nWe wish you all a blessed Ramadan and Eid Mubarak.\n\n  \n\nAbout Panti Asuhan Aisyiyah Siti Khadijah\n\nPanti Asuhan Aisyiyah Siti Khadijah is an orphanage center under the management of the Aisyiyah Muhammadiyah charitable department and located at Jl. Merdeka No. 27\, Samarinda\, East of Kalimantan\, Indonesia. For its operations\, the orphanage relies on public donations or sadaqah (almsgiving). The orphanage is currently taking care of 30 children (age 1-10 years old) and 24 youths (age 11-17 years old). Various educational programs\, as well as vocational activities\, are given at this center to better prepare these children and youths to live productively and independently in their future. \nAbout Ramadan Berbagi / Ramadan to Share program\nThis program\, while serving its purpose in supporting and empowering our local talents in culinary\, is also one of ICONE’s giving back programs to Indonesia. It focuses on providing educational support to children and youth in need. Started in 2016\, during Ramadan\, 100% of the donations from this program go to different targeted communities and welfare institutions in need of help in Indonesia. \nFor more information about the previous “Ramadan Berbagi / Ramadan to Share” programs\, please click here and here. \n\n
