The Magic of Java

04/30/2017 @ 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM EDT

Harvard’s Peabody Museum, supported by ICONE, Inc., is presenting a special contemporary performance based on The Magic Flute, featuring intricate leather puppets and the sonorous gong-chime instruments of Harvard’s Javanese-style gamelan orchestra, led by Jody Diamond, Artist in Residence, Music Department, Harvard University, with Hayley Fenn, PhD student in Historical Musicology, and theater director Mitchell Polonsky.

Enjoy shadow theater and live music, popular highlights of the Javanese village at the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, at the galleries of the Peabody Museum. Touch beautiful hand-painted puppets, play the instruments, and sample coffee from the islands of Indonesia.
